The City Council of the City of
Taylor met on August 5, 2008 at City Hall, 400 Porter St., Taylor, Texas. Mayor Rod Hortenstine declared a quorum and called the special meeting to order at
6:00 p.m. with the following present:
Mayor Pro Tem Ella Jez Frank Salvato, City Manager
Council Member Bernabe Gonzales Assistant City Manager, Jim Dunaway
Council Member Donald Hill City Clerk, Susan Brock
Council Member John McDonald

AND CONSIDER ACTION RELATED TO THE 2008/2009 FY BUDGET WHICH INCLUDES THE EFFECTIVE
Mr. Salvato continued the discussion with Council regarding the budget for
fiscal year 2008/2009.
VALOREM TAX RATE AND 2008/2009 BUDGET.
After some discussion on calculations and future needs, Mayor Pro Tem Jez moved
to establish the upper limit of the ad valorem tax rate at 0.7900 and Council
Member Hill seconded the motion. Mayor Hortenstine called for a record vote: Mayor
Pro Tem Jez voted AYE; Council Member Gonzales voted AYE; Council Member
McDonald voted AYE; Council Member Hill voted AYE; and the Mayor voted AYE.
VOTE: Five voted AYE. Motion passed.
By law, municipalities are required to have two public hearings on the ad
valorem tax rate and budget. Council Member McDonald moved to set the public
hearings for August 14 and August 26 at 6:00 pm to be held at City Hall. Council
Member Gonzales seconded the motion. VOTE: Five voted AYE. Motion passed.
With no further business, Mayor Hortenstine adjourned the meeting at 6:10 p.m.
