The City Council of the City of
Taylor met in a special joint meeting with the Taylor Independent School
District (TISD) Board on November 21, 2006, at Northside Elementary School, 1004 Dellinger St., Taylor, Texas. In the absence of Mayor Bernabe Gonzales and Mayor Pro
Tem Donald Hill, Council Member John McDonald declared a quorum and called the
meeting to order at 6:12 p.m. with the following present:
Council Member Rod Hortenstine Frank Salvato, City Manager
Council Member Ella Jez Assistant City Manager, Jim Dunaway
Clerk, Susan Brock
REGULAR AGENDA –
REVIEW/DISCUSS & CONSIDER/ACTION:
1. PARTICIPATE IN JOINT MEETING WITH TAYLOR INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT (TISD) BOARD TO REVIEW THE CITY 2006 STRATEGIC PLAN AND THE
2006-2007 GOALS FOR THE TAYLOR TISD.
Dr. Bruce Scott, TISD Superintendent, distributed copies of the TISD Goals for
2006-2007 and discussed the intent of each goal and how the District is
planning to meet these goals. He stated that the current enrollment at the
elementary level has experienced growth to the point that these campuses are at
or near capacity. Additional information was provided regarding the use of “ED
Connect” to communicate with each student with an automated telephone message,
current safety issues, a reduction in technology funding, and a continued
emphasis on academic excellence.
Mr. Salvato presented an overview of the development of the City Strategic Plan
and highlighted the accomplishments that have been made to meet these goals. He
stressed that the Council and staff continue to seek to expand economic
development for the City and that all entities, including the TISD, can benefit
from a renewed emphasis on community pride. This report was for information
only and no further action was taken.
With no further business, Council Member McDonald adjourned the meeting at 7:45
