TAYLOR, Texas –Taylor Fire Department Chief Daniel Baum has reported that the fire at the Durcon manufacturing plant at 206 Allison Road in Taylor, was completely extinguished at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, December 22.There were no civilian or firefighter injuries, and there is no current threat to the public.

The fire at the plant, where the company manufacturers laboratory-grade work surfaces, began at 7:53 p.m. on Saturday, December 21. Units from the Round Rock Fire Department, Georgetown Fire Department, Hutto Fire Department, and Pflugerville Fire Department also responded.

First units arrived on the scene and observed a fire on the roof of the building. Units were able to extinguish all exterior fire, but had difficulty reaching the seat of the fire inside the building. The 2400 block of East Fourth Street was closed to traffic in both directions and was reopened shortly after the fire was contained.

Chief Baum praised the firefighters and the responders, saying, “I want to commend the City of Taylor firefighters and the other assisting fire departments who helped save the building. They did an outstanding job, and should be proud of themselves.”

An investigation is in progress. Once the investigation is complete, the building will be turned over to the owners. Officials have asked that onlookers please stay out of the way while the firefighters perform their duties.
