City of Taylor announces details of the new Curbside Recycling Program

Citizens will soon find large blue bins placed in front of their houses on their regular trash pickup days, as the City of Taylor and Waste Connections (WC) begin the new Curbside Recycling Program in two steps.

  • Delivery of the blue recycling containers begins on Thursday, February 15
  • The first recycling bin pickup day will be Monday, February 26

Bins will first be delivered on the Thursday pickup routes to homes currently participating in the city’s trash collection program. Delivery of the recycling bins to single-family homes will continue on subsequent days in accordance with everyone’s normal trash pickup day.

While regular trash pickup happens every week, recycling containers will be emptied only every other week.

  • Cost per month per home is $2.50 for the first year
  • Cost after the first year is $3.25 per month

Taylor City Council voted at its meeting on December 14 to absorb the 75-cent difference in cost to citizens for the first year of the program as it gets underway. Citizens will see the $2.50 charge appear on the normal city utility bill starting the week of March 5 thereafter for each of the zones, according to Catherine Shy, City of Taylor Utility Billing Manager.

With the initial bin delivery, citizens will be provided a bag inside the container to include a recycling schedule, details about what can be recycled and other information about the program, according to Buddy Hyden, WC Operations Manager. Residents are advised to look for that information for answers to recycling questions.

“Waste Connections is very excited and pleased to provide residential recycling service to the citizens of Taylor,” said Steve Shannon, WC Municipal Marketing Manager. “This is a service and environmental project that people in Taylor have wanted for several years. We are pleased to partner with the City of Taylor to make this service something that Taylor and its residents will be proud of.”

With the start of curbside recycling, the City of Taylor Recycling Center at 1606 N. Main St. will be permanently closed on Wednesday, March 28. Residents can refer to the city’s website for a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and program details, including a pickup schedule, within the weeks before the recycling pickup begins on February 26.
