Emergency Notification System updates its short code to 76993

CodeRED short code

Effective Wednesday, Dec. 13, the City of Taylor and its partner, CodeRED / Warn Central Texas will activate a new short code number of 76993 for alerts sent to mobile devices. A short code is a five-digit number that appears on a device screen when an alert is received.

Citizens are asked to program the code of 76993 into their devices for awareness for future CodeRED alerts. The City of Taylor will send notifications only in cases of emergency; Weather Warning messages are also delivered from the same system. Citizens can opt in to receive weather alerts sent by the National Weather Service.

Once the new short code of 76993 is programmed into a mobile device, all messages received will display as addressed from "CodeRED Alert." No further action is required.

The City of Taylor is a partner with Williamson County in the CodeRED alert system, under the umbrella of Warn Central Texas, with no costs to its citizens. The service is provided free by the Capital Area Council of Governments to Central Texas cities and counties.
