Updates on Hurricane Harvey activities in the region

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross seeks volunteers who want to assist with efforts at the official designated Central Texas shelters, which are in Austin. Training sessions are being offered throughout the day on Saturday, August 26. The sessions are just one hour long and held at the AISD Performing Arts Center, 1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd., Austin, TX 78723.

Please note there are no official, designated shelters in Taylor. All evacuees are being routed in a coordinated effort through Austin.

Red Cross training times are:

Noon to 1 p.m.

2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers are encouraged to visit redcross.org/volunteer and fill out the volunteer application before they attend the training, but it is not required; computers will be available onsite for volunteers to complete their intake process during training. For more information, call 1-800-928-4271.

Williamson County Emergency Operations Center

The Wilco EOC was activated at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Local public safety officials, including Taylor staff, are all communicating regularly to stay informed and able to take action as it becomes necessary.

Low water crossing closed in Taylor; others closed in region

Saturday morning, city street crews closed South Rio Grande Street at the low water crossing. Please use caution when driving in the area. Remember, Turn Around Don't Drown. For a map and listing of all closures in the Central Texas region, please visit ATXfloods.com 

Canceled activities

The Taylor swimming pools at Murphy Park and Robinson Park are closed Saturday and Sunday. They are expected to reopen on Saturday, September 1. In other areas, Austin Community College has closed all 11 campuses this weekend. AISD has canceled all activities, including church services which are held in any school facilities.
