The City of Taylor was awarded $750,000 in state funds from the Texas Department of Transportation in 2008 to build sidewalks connecting the schools. The grant requires no match of funds from the City and will allow the City to build 2.4 miles of sidewalks connecting the High School, T. H. Johnson, Pasemann Elementary, and the Middle School. The Pedestrian/Bicycle Loop will provide a safe alternate transportation system along city thoroughfares connecting parks, trails, retail centers, and medical facilities.
The City Council held two Public Hearings to gather public input as to route selection prior to construction. Routes A and A-1 were selected at the January 8, 2009 meeting and construction is expected to begin in the Fall of 2009 or early in 2010.
