About Us
Mission
It is the mission of the Taylor Fire Department to preserve life and property, promote public safety and foster economic growth through leadership, management and actions, as an all risk life safety response provider.
History
The Department evolved from citizens volunteering to man wooden fire wagons and bucket brigades to our professionally trained firefighters manning our $750,000+ modern fire apparatus.
Our history began in 1886 when the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department was formally established. D.K. Holloman was voted in as our first Fire Chief and helped establish a 100 member Volunteer Fire Department.
Throughout time, there have been many changes that have come about in the fire service. The TFD has always kept up with these changes. When motor vehicles began to be used as fire apparatus, Taylor quickly acquired one of the first, which went into service in 1914.
Due to our brave citizens who left Taylor to fight in World War II, Taylor hired our first paid firefighters in 1942. This gave our city both a great volunteer force and a reliable professional department they could depend on. Over time this has evolved to a paid career department that is in place today.
1905 was the year the TFD moved into the old location at the corner of Porter Street and Fifth Street. This building was remodeled in 1935 and was occupied as the Downtown Fire Station until 2007. Staff and equipment was relocated to a brand new fire station at 304 East Third Street in Spring 2007.
West End Fire Station
Our second station (West End Fire Station) was built in the 1920’s at 910 Victoria St. It was remodeled in the 1950’s. The Taylor Fire Department used the station to house full time firefighters until 2004. It is no longer in use.
Fire Station 2
Because of the growth in the Northern part of our city, we built the Fire Station 2 located at the 700 block of Carlos Parker Blvd. next to the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department Hall. This station was built in 2001 on land donated to the city by the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department.
